Clean Design, an award-winning branding + advertising agency, today announced that an advertisement created for the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau won a top award from the Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina (DMANC).
The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau won the DMANC Platinum Award for Best Advertising, the highest award for that category, for the ad Clean Design created. The ad, which states “Your Community is a Part of Ours,” was part of a larger LGBT tourism campaign that Clean Design created on behalf of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau.
The ad was designed to counteract negative criticism from House Bill 2 (HB2), a state law that prevents transgender individuals from using the government-run bathrooms corresponding to the gender with which they identify. It reminds visitors that all are welcome in the region, in spite of HB2, which some believe discriminates against transgender individuals.
“This ad is one of the favorites we’ve done at Clean Design, and it seemed appropriate to bring it to the forefront at a time when travelers were crossing North Carolina off their list due to the HB2 law,” said Scott Scaggs, chief creative officer at Clean Design. “It is a message we already believed in and were promoting on behalf of our client, as they were ahead of the curve on this issue.”
The Destination Marketing Achievement Awards honor and showcase the best in marketing efforts by convention and visitors bureaus throughout North Carolina. Out-of-state tourism marketing professionals and educators serve as judges for the annual awards competition.
